Denny Hamlin Wins Pennsylvania 500 NASCAR Race

without comments

Denny Hamlin, pegged as a future NASCAR superstar, won the rain delayed Pennsylvania 500 at Pocono Raceway. The race had originally been scheduled for a day earlier but was pushed back due to rain. The win was Hamlin’s first of the season and broke a 50 race winless streak. His last victory had come in 2008 at Martinsville Raceway.

After the race, an emotional Hamlin dedicated the victory to his grandmother who passed away late last week at the age of 91. His grandmother reportedly watched every race holding her #11 teddy bear”with her eyes just a few inches from the screen as her vision worsened with age:

She understands the competition of the sport and she understands how much she means to me. Like today, she’s pretty proud. We definitely had some angels with us today.”

The unique triangle configuration track at Pocono bedevils many drivers, but Hamlin has always performed well here. He swept both races here as a rookie in 2006 and after the race his boss J.D. Gibbs made note of that fact:

I told him earlier, we’re going to lobby for a few extra races at Pocono”

Hamlin moved up to fifth in the NASCAR championship points standings after the victory. Tony Stewart increased his lead over Jimmie Johnson to 197 points with a top ten finish.

Juan Pablo Montoya finished second, moving him up to 8th place in the overall points standings. Clint Bowyer finished third and expressed pleasure with the solid performance in his postrace comments:

“Things haven’t been going our way all year long so it feels good to have something swing our way.

Former Indy Car driver Sam Hornish, Jr. took fourth”his best finish since coming to NASCAR. Kasey Kahne wound up in fifth place.

Points leader Stewart will have a good opportunity to increase his lead this weekend, as NASCAR heads to Watkins Glen, NY to race on the road course there. Stewart is considered not only the best road course driver among current NASCAR competitors, but arguably the best of all time.

Over A Century of Harley Davidson Dominance

without comments

Over a hundred years has passed since William Harvey and Andrew Davidson first collaborated in Milwaukee, USA to reinvent the motorcycle. The pairing has drastically changed the biking industry from selling mere vehicles to offering a whole new lifestyle.

While other companies were just selling regular motorcycles, by creating a biker image, the Harley left its competitors eating dust. Today, Harley Davidson ranks among America’s top growth stocks since its 1986 IPO. It has an annual sales growth of 37% despite suffering some difficulties.

Its easy to see why the company owns the biggest sales share in the motorcycle industry. Having a Harley is like being inducted into a century old fraternity. Purchase of a Harley makes you a member of the Harley Owners Group or HOG as they are fondly referred to. The Legacy of Harley Davidson is being kept alive in the brotherhood of HOG members.

While the company is reflecting robust earnings, there is some worry about how the company will fare in the next 100 years. It is interesting to note that a considerable percentage of Hog owners are baby boomers enjoying the benefits of their earnings and accomplishments in the 90s. What used to be a niche for young professionals, the HOG drivers are now growing older and its important that the Harley should appeal to younger demographics if they intend to survive the succeeding years.

It is clear that the younger generation like the sleek sporty models as opposed to the heavy brassy design the Harley Davidson is known for. The company as opposed to its competitors before refuses to buckle down. When it suffered a 15 year long decline in the 80s, it rallied and has now enjoyed 11 successive years of sales growth.

The Harley relies more on image than performance, and like other institutions that rely on such, it is vulnerable to changes in fashion and taste. Since Harley cannot clone the aging boomers, it is important that they must reach deeper to emerging yuppies and the younger crowd. It would be tricky for the company to make the changes since it has a cult following. They could risk alienating their base crowd. Newer popular models rely on water cooling engines which is a big departure from the Harleys air cooled ones. If the Harley would do away with the roaring sound, they can say goodbye to their customer base.

Harley dealers are confident though that it will find a way to find the balance. They have done an awful lot in the past and with current efforts in marketing strategies, they are confident that the company will find a way to reach out to the younger generation while still keeping faith with the old fanatical clients.

As the next 100 years is well on its way, we can expect the company to be able to bridge the gap. The Harley Davidson has been a biking legacy over the past century and it looks like it will remain to dominate the market for the next generations.

Golf Cart Malling Anyone?

without comments

My grandfather died a month ago so we went down for the wake. He lived a long full life and peacefully died at the age of 97 in Manila, Philippines leaving my grandmother alone. Everybody went home to Manila, even their sons and daughters who are now living in New York.

It became like some kind of a reunion as most of them have not set foot on the country for more than 5 years already. It was a busy time for me because they all wanted to catch up and are very interested about the changes and developments happening since they’ve been away. We visited various malls everyday and would only come home at dusk to say the 9 day long prayers for the dead.

Grandma who was now 92 years old does not like to be left alone at the moment. With her husband dead and all his children around, she wanted to be with them where ever they went. It needed some work done to have grandma along on our tours. She didn’t walk as fast as she used to so we had to pack her wheelchair in the trunk and brought it with us every where we went.

One of our destinations was the Mall of Asia or the MOA as it is fondly called in the Philippines. It is the 4th largest mall in the world and has a land area of 42 hectares. It has a floor area of 410,000 square meters and attracts 200,000 foot traffic everyday. Imagine bringing a 92 year old woman there.

So we were inside the mall and pushing grandma in her wheelchair steering left and right to avoid people traffic, when a golf cart passed by. A golf cart! Inside a mall! It was my first time in the Mall of Asia and frankly I haven’t seen anything quite like it. We hailed the cart and asked the driver if he could tour us around.

One of my cousins took the wheelchair and I hopped in with grandma and Mae, one of her granddaughters seated in the buggy. The golf cart was just perfect as the mall was really gigantic and having an elderly woman in the cart didn’t pose any problem at all. The golf car took us anywhere we wanted in no time.

There is more to riding a golf cart inside the mall. When grandma was in her wheelchair, people at the mall did not take notice and wouldn’t bother to get out of our way at all. As we were atop the buggy, they made way for us as soon as they saw us coming.

In a gigantic area, a golf cart could really come in handy. It is easy to picture a buggy getting around a large estate or even a nursing home. Older people could tour around without exerting much effort at all.

Country Clubs where the only places for golf carts back then. These days it has found a wider variety of purpose. What started out as a sports vehicle has now become a utility rig not only for golfers, but for the elderly and physically challenged as well.

What Makes Pocket Bikes A Favorite Among Both Kids And Adults?

without comments

What exactly is a pocket bike? The easiest and quickest answer would be to say it is a miniature motorcycle. This is why another name for pocket bikes is mini bikes. Since a mini bike is a copy of a full size motorcycle, it has all the important parts and design choices that a full size bike has. Pocket bikes are most often equipped with a four stroke gas engine, but can also be powered by two stroke engines or electric engines. Since a pocket bike is only 2 to 3 feet tall it is a popular first step into racing for kids, but powerful pocket bikes are also being raced by professional motorcycle racers.

If you care about having a stylish machine that doesn’t look like anyone elses, or simply like to customize your ride, the pocket bike world will make this very easy. To begin with, you can get the machines in a large variety of colors, patterns and designs. Add to that the ability to further customize by adding decals, changing handlebars and so on. The general design of minibikes follows real size bikes very closely. So a chopper mini bike will look like a miniature chopper, a pit bike will look like a miniature motor cross and a mini pocket rocket will look like a smaller version of a GP racing bike. A good price point for your first pocket bike would be around $350. You can get a pocketbike for much less than that, but then compromises will have to be made. Most importantly you will get a frame that is made from inferior metal alloys making it heavier and less sturdy.

Before you take your new ride out for a spin remember to check the regulation and laws in your state or country. Most places forbid the sues of pocket bikes on public roads.

As many riders unfortunately have experienced on their own skin, a pocket bike is not a toy and a fall from one without the proper safety gear can be very painful. Wear at least a helmet and preferably a full riding kit including pants, jacket, gloves, knee pads and shoes. While being safer than a real motorcycle a mini moto can still reach very high speeds. And being very maneuverable it can be easy to lose control of one.

I hope you will take these tips to heart, ride with the proper gear, and above all, have fun!

Automotive Radiator Flush Is A Simple Job

without comments

With driving every day and a hectic life style it is easy to let the little things go for a bit to long. When you are in heavy traffic and it is the worst possible time for an mechanical problem that is when it is going to happen. There are some simple automotive repairs that you can do to try to avoid trouble on the road.

A radiator flush is a very simple job that most people can do. A properly maintained cooling system is very important. It keeps the motor cool and it also helps the AC cooling system functioning correctly.

Before you begin make sure that you have the proper items for the job. The radiator flush solution and proper amount of coolant. The tools you will need are a rag, screwdriver, funnel and a receptacle for catching and storing the used coolant until it can be disposed of at a proper facility.

The first thing you need to be sure of is that the motor has had plenty of time to cool off. The last thing you want is to be burned by hot coolant. Once the radiator drain or the lower radiator hose has been removed from the radiator the fluid will drain. Take the cap off to speed up the process.

Be sure that the receptacle is positioned to catch all the engine coolant. If the coolant spills over it can be messy and lead to more clean up time. Coolant can be toxic to animals and it has a sweet taste so they will drink it if you let them and it is not good for them. The answer is do not let them drink it.

When the coolant is finished draining replace the plug or the hose which ever you removed. Then add the radiator flush and fill with water. Put the cap back on the radiator and start the motor. Turn on the heater and let the engine run. The instructions usually call for 10-15 minutes. After the motor has run for the instructed time turn it off and let the motor cool down again.

After the engine is completely cool drain the flush and water into the receptacle again. Then fill the engine with the proper amount of coolant for your area. The coolant bottle should tell you what is recommended for your climate. Some severe climates call for a 50/50 mix of coolant and water. Do not use only antifreeze in your cooling system as it is very corrosive.

There are a few simple automotive repairs that you can do yourself. Just remember to always make sure the radiator and engine is completely cool. The excess fluid should always be stored in an approved receptacle and discarded properly.

Learn More About HO Scale

without comments

HO scale trains are the most famous and popular sort of trains in the world. They’re sought after people because of the perfect mix they give between attention to detail and size.

HO scale trains are considered medium sized model trains by most countries, except in Japan, where they are considered large model trains. In fact, Japan is a curious case when it comes to HO scale trains.

Due to the country’s nature, Japans hoemploys don’t have as much room as their western counterparts. Therefore, due to their littleer size, N scale trains are more known in that country. N scale trains are also considered the norm, so they are taken as the standard for normal or medium size of trains. Since HO scale trains are large than N scale trains, its just natural that they are considered large trains. In fact, Japan is the only country in the world where HO scale trains aren’t the most renowned model trains.

On the rest of the world, HO scale trains are considered the optimal. That is because they have many advantages over the other scales.

The first advantage is that they’re large enough that they may be very detailed. Not only that, but similarly because small details are simple to see without a magnifying glass. What’s more, working on those details is much simpler than doing so in smaller scale trains.

In addition, they’re big enough that they are safe for children to play with, as they’re simpler to handle for their little hands. Smaller scales have parts that may be swallowed by small children, which isn’t the case for HO scale trains.

HO scale trains are likewise preferred over larger trains because they allow for a more complex track layout in a little space than larger trains.

HO scale trains also tend to be cheaper than other scales. They’re cheaper than littleer scales because the process to make them isn’t as demanding as the procedure of littleer scales. On the other hand, they are also cheaper than larger scales because they require less material.

Additionally, because they have a large|huge demand than other sorts of train, HO scale trains merit from economies of scale that result from a huge production. This likewise tends to lower prices.

Just as a conclusion, if you did not know it already, HO scale trains are built at a scale of 1:87. Since this scale is almost half the O scale, the scale has named HALF O, which then was shortened to HO.

Why Should You Paint Your Car Yourself Instead of Paying Workshops

without comments

There are disadvantages and advantages with painting your car yourself and going to the workshop to paint.

Reasons to Paint Your Very Own Car.

One.It is a money saver or at least could be if you do it right of course. If you dont take the time to learn to do it the right way then it could still be a pricy endeavor.

2. its a huge accomplishment to complete this task then be able to step back and look at the great job you’ve done.

Three. If you are into car restoration, its one way you could cut down your expenses.

4. Often there’s preliminary work that you would have to do yourself before you get to the point of car painting itself.

Reasons To Paint Your Shop In A Car

1. Its most likely a time saver. Unless you’ve the extra time to spend car painting, then this’ll be the route you want to go. Don t forget there’s more to it than just putting the paint on.

2. The shop more likely has much better car painting tools then you would have. This implies they could get a pretty finish.

3. Their paint may be better than yours

Four. They know how to finished the essential body work first as they’ve professionals on staff specifically for that job.

5. Reputable corporations will stand behind their work. In other words they will give you some type of guarantee.

Six. They have the commercial products to clean the car prior to car painting, which is extremely significant.

7. They have the correct facilities, whereas if you do it yourself you will not be able to protect the car against the components in case you cannot get it finished.

So as you can see there’re good and bad points for both arguments. If you can improvise and create the same circumstances as for the favourable points of utilising a shop then you will want to consider it. Car painting is a tough undertaking. Another thing you will want to consider too is the value of the car. Say it is a 2nd motor vehicle or a pretty old one then maybe you don’t want to pay the price of having it professionally painted. In this case you will probably be further ahead to do the car painting yourself. In these circumstances small flaws in the overall work is not going to make that much of a difference.

The other point is if youve whatever experience with car painting or even other types of spray painting then you will be able to do a good job with out putting it into a shop. These are all things you will need to consider. If you decide that you are going to do it yourself though it will be a better idea to read a few how to books or watch a video on the subject.

Spray Paint A Car in 5 Steps – Spray Painting Tips

without comments

If you really think that you want to paint a car then get ready for a full task ahead of you. It does not mean that you can’t or should not do it, it just signifies be certain you’re ready to see the job done from beginning to end. If you do not finish the job entirely or properly then youre going to be driving something that would be a bit embarrassing to the eye at least.

To paint a car takes careful planning and ensuring that youve all of the supplies you need and the time to go through at least some of the stages.

There are things that youre going to need by way of supplies. You’ll need masking tape, dust mask, goggles, sandpaper, wax/grease remover, primer paint, paper for covering, car wash and detergent, paint sprayer, putty with knife.

When you purchase your sand paper be sure you purchase fine and thick grit, as you may need both textures. The amount of primer and urethane based paint you need would be dependent on the size of your car. Whether you want to use a paint sprayer is your choice, if you choose not to then the regular spray paint cans would do fine. Make sure you wear appropriate clothing when you go to paint a car so your skin isnt revealed.

Lastly be sure you’ve the right space to work in. You require to be able to work around your car. You most surely need good ventilation, and you will need to be able to protect it against the elements.

Firstly you must actually wash your car well. It does not matter how clean it may look to you unless you just washed it, there’ll be whatsoever debris on it that you must take out, otherwise the paint will not adhere the right way. Then once you have it washed nice and clean you’ve to get all the old wax off it so that’s where the wax/greaser remover comes in. It is really important you go through these steps when you go to paint a car.

You’ll probably notice that you’ve some rough spots on your latest finish. Say you go to paint a car that’s in this condition, you’ll not get good coverage with the new paint. Put little pit marks made by stones or things like that just use a little putty to fill them in. The use the sand-paper to softly smooth the rough spots and small holes. Make sure you wipe off all the debris from sanding.

In order to paint a car, you must be perfectly sure that it’s dry after your washing. This would take a couple of hours. Be sure it doesnt get dirty over again. Next masking tape off the areas that you don’t want to get paint on.

Entirely prime the car. Then sand it gently once more. Be sure to wipe the residue off.

Now you’re ready to apply the base coat of the new colour. Preferably with a spray gun. Completely spray it then let it dry for about 15 minutes. Then you can apply the second coat. Most often you could get away with two coats.

Let it dry for about 1 hour then you can apply the clear coat. Let dry 15 minutes then re apply. You will in all likelihood need about 3 coats of the clear to get a nice finish.
