Auto Repair in Utah you can Trust

without comments

I think we can all agree that we can’t live without our cars. They are too vital to everything we do, especially if you live in a place that doesn’t have good public transportation, like New York.

When your car or truck breaks down or you get in a car accident, you often find yourself in a panic if you don’t have other means of transportation. You worry how much it will cost to fix your car and you worry about who you can trust. Let’s face it; we all hear stories of people getting ripped off by someone that worked on their car. That is no longer the case for those of you in Utah because there is a lot quality auto repair Utah has to offer.

Your first task should be to look into the services they offer. A good auto repair shop should offer a wide variety of services like frame alignment, paint jobs, paint-less dent repair, engine work, custom stripes, detailing and more.

In order to do so, you need to do some research to ensure quality. Here are couple things you should look into. First, they should offer a wide variety of services, such as: like frame alignment, paint jobs, paint-less dent repair, engine work, custom stripes, detailing and more. This will show you the level of versatility of the shop.

You should also check into their certifications. Are the technicians in the shop Gold Certified? Do they have any awards for good service? There are a lot of companies in Utah that will really care about your business and your car. Many of them will even work directly with your insurance company to help you take care of the costs.

When it comes to your car, you should always take the time to find a company that will always give you what you pay for. If you want your car to be treated well and taken care of, do your checking and find the shop that will provide it. At the very least, you can make sure that they have all the state-of-the-art equipment required to fix your vehicle.

Fourth, check to see what equipment they use. This will tell you how up-to-date they are with techniques and procedures. You want to know that they will take care of you and your car and you get the most bang for buck. State-of-the-art equipment will ensure quality installations and repairs.

Any quality auto repair Utah will make sure to do the final 20 point inspection to ensure that they didn’t miss anything and that every repair was made properly. This is very important for peace of mind. To know that you went to a quality auto repair Utah shop will be so comforting as your driving away.

5 Costly Car Maintenance Mistakes – and How to Save a Fortune Caring for Your Car

without comments

These days, people’s lives are so hectic that they never seem to have the time to maintain their car. It’s a shame, because people could end up saving a lot of money and time by taking 10 minutes every now and then to do maintenance.

Here are some common mistakes people make with their cars:

1) Not making sure their tires are inflated properly – There is no real guess work involved here, recommended tire pressure is clearly printed on the tire. One thing you do need to buy if you don’t have one, is a tire pressure gauge. It doesn’t have to be fancy, many reliable gauges cost just around five dollars, less in many cases.

Proper tire inflation can help in a number of ways. First is that a properly inflated tire can save gas, a precious commodity these days. Having tires with the right amount of pressure makes them last longer, and do their job better. Over or under inflated tires could blow out, causing an accident, or you have to replace or repair it. If you have to use a spare, don’t drive around on it like a normal tire, they aren’t designed to drive around on, just enough to get you to a repair shop.

2) Not checking fluid levels (or not checking them properly) – An automatic transmission should be checked when warm, with the car in neutral with the parking brake on. Engine oil should be checked with the car warm, but turned off. Radiator fluid levels should only be checked when the car is cold, because if you check it when the car is hot, the pressure build up in the radiator could cause serious burns.

3) Changing your own oil or not changing your oil regularly – Many people think they are doing themselves a favor by changing their own oil but changing your own oil can end up costing you way more in the long run. First raising your own car to change your oil in the first place can be dangerous. Plus, draining your oil causes a big mess, and then you have the responsibility of getting rid of the old oil.

Taking your vehicle to a lube shop is much better, because they check and top off everything, lubricate the chassis, and more, for one low price. If you do the math, not only is it cheaper, but it usually is finished in ten minutes, compared to the hours spent doing it on your own.

4) Not checking the brakes often enough – That squeal you hear every time you push the brake is a warning that your brake pads have worn all the way down to the studs, and are now scraping the drums and rotors. Leave it like that too long and you’ll be stuck replacing the rotors along with the brake pads, which is pricey. Having the brakes changed, which typically costs less than two hundred dollars, is much better than waiting and having to replace the rotors too.

5) Not making sure the gas cap is tight – If your engine light comes on, it could be telling you that your gas cap is loose, and air is interfering with your fuel intake. By making sure your gas cap is on properly, you won’t have to take your vehicle in to get checked for something this simple.

Transmission problem with used cars

without comments

As the bad economy touches more people it will also change their buying habits. One big area that has been affected is the area of car buying. When times were good a lot of people would just go out and get a new car.Now if they are in need of another vehicle they have to buy it used. That isn’t necessarily such a bad thing since you can get good value with a used car.  But if you do it wrong it could cost you more money.

One of the areas you can do wrong is the transmission.Even though they make transmissions more reliable they still can be expensive.Said in a different manner you can break them easy but you can’t fix them easy without spending a lot of money.  That is a bad combination and I have seen many of my clients suffer from this in my Vista transmission repair company.  They go out and buy a used car and they end up spending thousands more.

One thing that is easily checked is the car’s history.  You want to ask the seller for any service records. That can show you if it was a rental.  Or you can see if it was in an accident. So what you are looking for are any transmission problems.  That is one thing I have all my clients of my La Costa transmission repair shop to do is check the vehicle’s records.

Another good thing for you to look over is to see if the transmission fluid level is good. What you are going to have to do is have the car idle for a little while. They you just check the fluid with a dipstick into the transmission fluid.  If it is low it could be a transmission leak.If you find that the fluid is very dirty or even black, don’t even think about buying that car.It is a good gauge that there may be transmission problems.  The last thing you want to do is buy a used car then end up having to bring it into my Vista auto repair shop to fix the transmission.Perform these steps and you will save a lot of money.

Directions For Automotive Touch Up Paint

without comments

You pay an arm and a leg for a new car and in only a few short weeks, you get that first scratch. It could happen in the parking lot or while driving down the highway, but your show room perfect car now has an imperfection. If you would like to repair that imperfection, all you need is some automotive touch up paint. You can repair the damage so that no one ever sees the scratch. Just follow the paint instructions.

There are several ways to attach touch up paint. You may choose a paint pen for small scratches. Scratches that are somewhat larger but still smaller than a dime can be repaired using a touch up paint that comes in a bottle like finger nail polish. The built in brush is used to apply the paint. Even larger scratches will need the use of touch up paint that is from a spray can.

If you have a larger sized scratch you will most likely need to use a spray paint can. When using this type of device, you’re going to need to mask the area to be painted with automotive masking tape and a newspaper.

Sand any surface rust using 220 grit fine sandpaper and then coat the area with rust converter.

Any unpainted area will need to have primer applied. Primer adheres the paint to the unpainted metal or other materials. It can also be used to fill small imperfections which are on the surface of the vehicle. Give primer eight to ten hours drying time to allow for curing and then use your fine sandpaper again to smooth any rough spots and to feather edges.

The base coat is applied next. It is better to use several thin coats rather than one big blob of paint. Let each coat dry about fifteen to twenty minutes before attempting the next coat of paint. Allow the base coat to also dry thoroughly (another eight to ten hours or longer) before applying the top clear coat.

Now, you are ready to put on the base coat. Make sure to apply the base coat in multiple skinny layers as opposed to a large layer. Then, give each coat about 15-20 minutes of drying time before you begin to apply the next coating. And make sure you let the base coat dry thoroughly before adding any top or clear coat. Drying time can take a while; sometimes overnight or longer in cooler temperatures.

If the rest of the car is oxidized, gently rubbing with the compound will remove the oxidized paint. Be careful that you do not rub through the paint with the compound. Do not use towels or wash cloths with rubbing compounds, only t-shirt materials.

Once you’ve put on the touch-up paint to your car or truck, tis time to wait at least 30-days before you put a quality wax on the vehicle. Waxing will help to prevent your vehicle from oxidizing, and therefore needing to be repainted again.

Keeping your maintenance records for your car

without comments

One of the current trends going on with buying a used car is their maintenance records.  People are looking to see if a used car has a maintenance record. Because if you do have someone who did care for their car, you can trust that it should last longer. So if you have a vehicle you own it will be critical to keep a record of all maintenance.  Because a buyer will want to see that.

So one of the things you want to make sure to do is to keep a receipt of all service you do for your car.  In my auto repair San Diego business I make sure to give all my clients a receipt of the work that was done.  Make sure whichever company you take your car into does the same.  This could mean the difference in getting the price you want or settling for a lot less.

Also whenever you take your car in for a tune up keep a record of it.Getting your car tuned up regularly will allow your car to last longer and run smoother. It is also beneficial in making your car pass any sort of smog test a lot easier.  In my smog test San Diego center I notice cars that weren’t tuned up regularly are the ones that fail the test.

Finally you want to keep good records of when you take your car in for brake maintenance.  This is another key part of taking care of your vehicle. It is what most potential buyers are going to want to see.Because the thing that a new buyer is not interested in having to do is go and get some brake service.  So in my San Diego brakes service I make sure to give a thorough report to all my clients.

Hopefully you see how important maintenance is if you want to sell your car for top dollar.  Buyers want good cars that were maintained.  By keeping records you can prove that you have been taking care of it.

Vehicle Axles

without comments

As soon as my car start to make a noise that I haven’t heard before or even if it starts to feel a little different, I know it is telling me that something is wrong. I recently had problems with my axle and I was able to identify it through the noises that it was making. Here are a couple things that are good to know about your axle, including signs to look for if you may need any repairs.

The best indicator that your axle needs some work is if you are turning right or left and you can hear a clicking noise. This same sound can be heard when you lift your foot off of the accelerator. If you hear this noise at either of these times, your best bet is that your axle needs some fixing.

Listen carefully because some get this confused with a low rumble or a whining. These sounds can occur but are indicators of different problems within your engine.

Axles have become a little more complicated in newer cars, but they are different with every car. Because they are a very important part of your steering system, it is important that they are well taken care of.

Now a days newer cars have a split axle. This means that both sides are connected to separate shafts. This allows for an easier ride because each side has separate suspension.

With a split axle, your wheels will actually move at different speeds as you turn a corner. This adds more than just comfort, but a sense of security and better traction. If you find yourself driving a lot on wet and slippery roads, this is something that can help.

If there are any problems with your axle it is important to get them fixed right away. Because they really are so key to good driving conditions, as well as safety, it can be disastrous if anything were to go wrong.

When most of us are driving we usually have music or other distractions that lead us away from really listening to our car. If you start listening you can catch onto problems when they start right away. Then, just take it to your trusted car shop to help you fix your car.

Things you should know about maintaining your car

without comments

Today in this ear, everybody has to have a car.  Some people need planes. But for many people, the use of a car is critical to surviving.  It takes people to work.It can take people when they need to go shopping. It can get people to and from school. So the thing I would like to share with you is the 3 critical parts of taking care of your car.

This is from a perspective from my experience running a auto repair San Diego company. The two things I want to take a look at is your safety and the overall health of your car.

So when it comes to safety you can put all types of maintenance as being critical to safety.  But one part of your car is really important to your safety.  That part is your brakes. With automobiles going much faster than they used to, good brakes are a must. With more and more people having so many distractions good brakes are a must.  By making sure you take care of them you will always be able to break in time.  Well taken care of brakes save lives and money.  I have seen it first hand running a San Diego brake shop.

In regards to your car’s health the most important part is keeping your car maintained.  Some of the important things to do are oil changes and tuneups. By keeping your car’s oil maintained your car runs smoother and longer.By not always changing your oil you run the chance of ruining your engine.

Another important point you should remember to do is have regular tune ups done.  If you do that you keep all your car’s major functions taken care of.By performing this step you will have a car that runs smoother and cleaner.  If you don’t do this your car will run bad. Some of the results that can happen are a failed smog check.  Most of the cars that fail in my smog test San Diego shop are the ones that didn’t take care of those things.

So in doing these few things what you accomplish is the safety of you and your loved ones and the safety of your car.

Saving money through your car

without comments

Today a lot of Americans are searching for ways to spend less of their money. With the state our economy is in, you can’t really find fault in them. They try to cut expenses any way possible.Or they might not go out as much.  Don’t buy things they don’t need.  But I would like to suggest a way you might not have thought about.  That way is in your car.

When most people think of their cars and saving money it usually involves saving gas.  They think of ways they can spend less on gas.But what I would like to point out that if your car is properly cared for you will save more in the long run.  I know this for a fact running my San Diego auto repair company.

With cars in general a lot of people don’t even consider maintaining it. Unfortunately the only time they do think about it, is when it is too late. They wait for the inevitable part breaking down or something going wrong. But from what I have witnessed doing this and waiting ends up making the auto repair expenses more costly.

As an example let look at your brakes. If you can keep your brakes properly maintained you can prevent expensive repairs. If you fail to, you are going to have disc brakes that will be expensive to repair.Or you might find the need to have the brake shoes replaced.By using your brakes properly and then maintaining them you will save yourself some money.  So take it in to a brake shop like my San Diego brakes shop and you can find out if you need to do anything.Things like the brake fluid and checking it to make sure it has enough.

Or people don’t get tuneups with their car.  They let the engine go.  They don’t change the oil as much as they should. This ends up making your cars engine to start running badly.  So bad that it won’t pass a smog test.  From what I have seen running a San Diego smog check shop, if you fail a smog test, this can lead to expensive repairs just to get it to pass.

But if you are able to maintain it properly you will have a car running in good shape. The motor is going to run much smoother and proper.Wait longer then you should and you will end up spending a lot more money then expected.

Hopefully this shows you that you can save money by maintaining your car. Spend less now and you will get to spend less in the future.

How to save more money in a used car

without comments

Well the decade of wealth and exuberance is gone. For quite a few Americans those types of luxuries like new cars are now gone. Nowadays when a family needs a new vehicle they often look for used cars. This is clear by all of the money troubles the big three auto makers are having. There sales have plummetted.

But families will still be needing a form of transportation. But when families are on a tight budget they have to go with a cheaper choice. That alternative choice is a used car.

As a San Diego auto repair shop owner I am asked to inspect some of these used cars.  Because when you are buying a used car you don’t want a lemon. So by making sure there is proper inspectino performed, you can avoid most expensive repairs.

So when inspecting these used cars here are a couple of big things to look for.First thing you have to check is the brakes.  We do San Diego brake in our shop.  So I know first hand that brake repairs can become expensive. If you buy an auto that the owners didn’t take care of the brakes, that could lead to very expensive repairs.  Last thing you want is to have to replace the entire braking system.  So make sure the brakes are good.

Second you want to make sure it is running clean.Another way to say it, can it pass the smog test.  In my business I do San Diego smog check. The last thing you are going to want is the purchase of a used car that needs some expensive repairs.  Especially if those repairs involve emission problems.

If you buy a car that is unable to pass a smog check, that won’t be good.It is a sign of a previous owner not taking care of it.What probably happened is they didn’t do any tuneups or oil changes. These could be the start of a lot more problems in the future.

If you take the time to inspect a couple of items you will save a lot of money. By not doing proper checking you can fall into some huge repair bills.  When you are trying to save money I am sure you don’t want that.

Ways to have a car last longer

without comments

It is a new time and day.The economy is now considerably different.  With it, most Americans don’t have as much money to spend as before.  In terms of the car industry you can see it.With the auto industry seemingly always losing money, you have to know that it is because people just aren’t buying big items.

With that being the case most Americans will have to keep all their cars much longer.  Keeping a car longer will require maintenance. The better you maintain your car is the longer life you will give it.  So I would like to offer a couple of tips from my experience owning a San Diego auto repair company.

One of the problems that gets overlooked alot is not keeping your car in good clean running order. Why is this important?  Because if you don’t keep it running clean you could fail a smog test.If you are not able to pass a smog check this could lead to very expensive repairs.  I have seen this time and time again from doing smog test San Diego.

All you have to do is make sure you change the oil and oil filter regularly. Also be sure that you are able to get the car in for regular tuneups.

Second issue not handled all the time is taking care of your brakes. You don’t really watch for it as much as you should. But everybody is positive that it is critical for safety. But if you are unable to maintain it, this can lead to an expensive repair.  I should know having to charge my clients to replace their brakes at my San Diego brakes shop.

Make certain that when you are using the brakes that you aren’t too hard on them. Be ready for all the stops and then you will be able to brake slowly.  Also make sure the brake fluids are enough. This can add up to a lot of money saved in repairs.

Do these few tips and you can be in for a lot of money saved in repairs. When you must keep the cars you own much longer, you will be happy that you did.
